Our class was discussing the history of Thanksgiving one day last week. We started talking about what we are thankful for when the students began thinking about others who may not have as much. We decided that collecting food for those in need this Thanksgiving would be a great way to help out.
Here's a picture of just a little bit of the food that students brought in. Everything will be delivered to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC by the 2nd grade teachers before Thanksgiving. Thank you for all your support! Happy Thanksgiving!

Between Election Day and Veterans Day, we've had quite a week! Jessie's grandfather visited our class for lunch and answered lots of our questions. Chetan was our STAR this week and shared his special talent, Taekwondo! Our mystery reader was Carter's grandfather. He read a book about plant life cycles and brought a really fun activity. We have also finally finished all of our animal project presentations. They were amazing!
We spent some time this week learning about prefixes and suffixes, standard and nonstandard measurement in the learning garden, inferring while reading, and addition and subtraction strategies. Here are just a few pictures from our week: Today we learned all about voting, the current election, and democracy. We used our knowledge to vote in order choose between two books to read together as a class. Along with the other second grade classes, we each filled out a secret ballot The votes were counted and a majority chose Turk and Runt: A Thanksgiving Comedy by Lisa Wheeler. We look forward to reading it soon! Check out our Election Day pictures below:
