It's hard to believe we are well into our second full week of school! This week in reading, we are continuing to learn about comprehension strategies. Your child should be able to tell you what it means to "STOP and check for understanding." Be sure to ask them about it when you're reading with them at home.
Today, we learned about story elements and practiced retelling stories we've read. We walked along the "Yellow Brick Road" which guided us in our retelling. We'll use the road to help us retell stories all week!

We had a FABULOUS first day of second grade! We went to chapel, learned about routines and procedures in the classroom, played with old and new friends at recess, and discussed ways we can "fill buckets." Ask your 2nd grader what it means to fill a bucket or what it feels like have a full or empty bucket :). We're looking forward to a great rest of the week! For more pictures from our first day, check out the "Our Year in Pictures" link.
