We just don't know how to stop learning in second grade! Take a look at just a few of the awesome things we've been doing this week!

We have loved any chance we've had to use iPads to learn in the classroom. Our class has been learning about classifying animals beginning by sorting animals into the broad groups of vertebrates and invertebrates. This week, we dove a little deeper into our research and studied different types of amphibians. Each student used "PebbleGo" to research either newts, salamanders, frogs, toads, or mudpuppies. Then, students worked in small groups to create a poster with information to later use to teach the rest of the class. We're still finishing up our presentations but I was so impressed with how hard they worked, how well they worked together, and how excited they were to teach the other students in our class. Check out the pictures of our research process and our finished posters!
We've had a great week but today was especially fun! We learned about reading with a partner during our reading centers. Students are supposed to take turns reading pages of the book. If someone gets stuck on a tricky word, their partner says, "coach or time?" If the student picks "coach" it means that their partner can help them figure out the word. If they choose "time" it means that they want a little more time to work through it on their own.
In math, we made "Beetle Glyphs" and sorted and analyzed our class data. We also had a "Math Problem Solving" session this afternoon in which we used the new 2nd Grade iPads to manipulate base 10 blocks. These 2nd graders know how to use technology! Check out our pictures below. |
